Save the date! After a summer break, we’re gearing up for a strange autumn, and what better way to mark the change of seasons by listening to some REALLY WEIRD MUSIC in a record shop?
The third meeting of The Really Strange Record Club will take place on Thursday 28th September from 7:30pm, once again generously hosted by our friends at Dreamhouse Records - and we want to hear the weirdo treasures lurking in YOUR record collection!
The “rules” (lol) haven’t changed - if you want to bring something along, drop me an email and I’ll save you a slot on the turntable. There’s no restrictions on style, genre, era, (quality?)1 - more details on the website, and if you’ve got any questions please just ask.
So tell a friend, bring a record, and I’ll see you on the 28th!
In other RSRC news, we were honoured to contribute a chart to the July edition of really strange music BIBLE The Wire magazine. Given the platform, I briefly considered going for cool points and listing a bunch of OOP noise CDRs from the early 00s, but in the end I did the sensible thing and listed some of the highlights played at our first two events. People Like Us and Valentina Magaletti will of course be familiar names to regular Wire readers, but I’m pretty sure that this is Cindy & Bert and Manfred Romance’s first mentions in the magazine - though hopefully not the last. Thanks so much to the wonderful Wire team for the shout-out, and hello to any new newsletter subscribers joining us - looking forward to meeting you on the 28th!
FINALLY, it’s my hope that RSRC acts as a bit of a hub for the local experimental/underground/weirdo music scene, and to that end I’m keen to use this newsletter as a bit of a community notice board for anything else a little off the beaten path that’s happening in this neck of the woods. So if you’re running a gig/event, or if you’ve released a record or uploaded something cool to Bandcamp, or if you’re looking to buy or sell any weird records, drop me an email and I’ll give you a shout-out in the next newsletter or on our Instagram.
That’s all for now - remember to put 28th September in your diary, and looking forward to hearing what you’ll bring!
Matt
I mean, please don’t bring anything that’s full of hateful nonsense, we’re all about musical fun for everyone, but I don’t really need to say that do I?
