Introducing... The Really Strange Record Club.
Join our debut event! Thursday 16th March 2023, 7:30pm, at Dreamhouse Records in Leyton.
The Really Strange Record Club is a strategic bet that there’s a substantial community of heads in Waltham Forest who love adventurous music. I’m talking about people whose tastes tend towards the DIY. The wonky. Maybe even the avant-garde or the experimental.
I think it would be nice to hang out together - not just online, but in the real world, share some records we love, and maybe even have our minds blown by something new.
Fortunately, Jon at the absolutely wonderful Dreamhouse Records on Francis Road in Leyton agrees, and has very kindly agreed to host the inaugural get-together of the Really Strange Record Club on Thursday 16th March at 7:30pm, where we’ll get to hear some weird and wonderful sounds on his top-notch hi-fi system.
What will we listen to? Anything you want to bring along. The rules are there are no rules - as long as it’s the kind of thing that you don’t really hear in the mainstream (whatever that is these days) then it’s fine by us. It doesn’t even need to be that “strange”. Private press folk. Ambient. Jazz. Lo-fi indie-pop. Shoegaze. Psyche. Experimental electronics. Movie soundtracks. An old bleep 12”. Live bootlegs. Just as long as you really love it. It’s all welcome here.
Just drop me an email with what you’d like to bring (and what format you’ve got it on!). If I get more record nominations than timings allow then I’ll put all the titles in a hat and do a draw.
I’ve started an FAQ on the website here. And in the highly likely event that there’s something I’ve missed - email me or leave a comment on this post and we’ll figure it out.
Can’t wait to meet you on the 16th March, and hearing the strange sounds you bring with you.
